A year ago or so, TikTok definitely hit its highest point and truly became one of the hottest, if not THE video and social media apps to be on. Whether you were doing recipes, doing live shows, tricks and pranks, or started a new sensual and quite sexy video that could easily be tagged as a TikTok porn video you had it all on the platform!
These days, it continues to do so, but not as much as during all the time everyone was in lockdown. For example, the concerts business tried to shift towards the platform and there actually several famous artists trying to have their concerts shown on the platform, especially The Weeknd and Justin Bieber.
The current domination of TikTok as a social media video app – Will it continue to dominate?
What about now? Will TikTok continue to be a platform for the artists and influencers to continue posting video content? Or will it turn only to be a video app for pornstars, influencers, and short-term famous content creators?
Those are the questions that we will try to answer in this article. What we will do is reviewing the platform and specifically, all the features, as well as its future! Sure, we know how the app continues to be vastly popular across many regions of the globe, but there’s still a good chance it is one more app that could be soon forgotten.
You might think it’s not possible right now, but let’s try to analyze if TikTok has what it takes!
So first of all, let’s begin with the most important part of it all: The video quality. We’re aware of how bad videos can be when on mobile. But things have changed during the past years. The video quality you can have now is arguably better than some professional video cameras! Perhaps not all of the world has yet those high-quality video features, but it could just be a matter of time.
The truth is that if you had nothing to do with videos and have not used TikTok very often, you would not be able to notice the difference. For example, a video can be uploaded and inside the app, it is as if it’s been filmed natively. Videos that do not use filters and do not look fake are uploaded very rapidly! Sure, some videos look good even when the quality is lowered, but that’s just fine because people tend to only focus on the video when recording/uploading them.
Its major competition with other social media apps
The platform has a couple of major and key competitors: Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook.
Instagram is the most professional and widely-used app to upload photos. It’s not known as one of the best when it comes to video quality, but then again, it doesn’t really matter too much since people tend to forget about the video when uploading it on Instagram anyway.
Snapchat is also very popular with the feature that allows you to take a photo or record a video right in the app itself. There’s this major issue though as people tend to upload their videos there through third-party apps or stories instead of using Snapchat directly.
Facebook on the other hand still remains the most popular social media app in terms of users and brands. Sure, it heavily focuses on the commercialization aspect, but then again, you can do pretty much everything on the platform and in some countries, it’s basically what Google is worldwide. People in some countries do everything on Facebook.
Youtube, is perhaps where most competition comes from for TikTok in terms of content creation. It’s a massive platform and the app itself tends to be used by almost everyone for everything related to video at least once or twice.

So how does TikTok stand against its competitors?
Slowly but surely, it’s getting there!
As of right now, with the latest updates and the upcoming release of the app’s new features, they are slowly widening their audience. There are so many people that want to use TikTok and have amazing content within the app. However, it is still not enough when compared to some other social media companies out there.
But then again, people tend to forget about those apps anyways. They might use them for a couple of days and months but then move onto something else.
How influencers can play a big role in the final outcome
Influencers are these days the new celebrities. Today, even when we look at Hollywood, most of the top-profile actors/actresses are social media influencers. It’s true that there are some other people too, but if you look at who gets more screen time over there, most of them have their personal social media accounts and not only rely on their acting skills to make a living.
Social media influencers use these apps a lot as they’re connected to all their followers and subscribers. Of course, there could be others that are not so popular with influencers and celebrities that are still worth mentioning: TinyChat (less known, but still very popular), Vine (this one really needs no introduction, we all know now). And there is always the risk of one of those smaller apps grab the attention of famous influencers, getting traction, and then play a major risk on TikTok’s current domination.
Some would say that TikTok is also used by many famous influencers (reality stars, singers, artists) to make money with their followers and subscribers in mind. It’s not only the same as other social media platforms but it is also used for other reasons. The platform is a perfect tool to reach out to new people and expand your fan base!
Getting people to be active on the platform and regularly upload videos is still a major challenge for the app, as well as trying to persuade influencers to continue posting content inside TikTok rather than elsewhere! We know there are many influencers on TikTok right now, but it’s still not enough for it to reach its maximum potential.
